Scorpions men continue success, Cambridge Hornets get first title
The second stop of the MWTC arrived in Manchester last Saturday following its first successful outing in London. The forecast was mainly dry and so looked like a good day for Touch.
The morning session went smoothly with the new scoring system allowing the schedule to run to time and resulting in some big scorelines.
In the Women's semi-finals Cambridge had a good win over an injury depleted London Scorpions and Hot Custard had a much closer victory over London Galaxy.
On the Men's side, London Scorpions had a victory over Thames Valley and Tumeke took the other match by one touch down against London Galaxy.
The Women's final was a closely contended match, with the Cambridge women eventually taking the victory over Hot Custard, 7-5.
The Men's final was less close, an injury during the day left Tumeke low on numbers. However, the London Scorpions were deserved victors after consistent play in the final and throughout the day.
Thanks to the medical/physiotherapy team, who were kept busy with a constant flow of injuries, some more serious than others, and did a great job at ensuring everyone was looked after.
And thanks to the referee team, who worked well together and put in a great shift with the low numbers, and despite some issues with a couple of missing player refs on the far pitches, all the matches were well officiated.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all the organisers who make it work. It's a pity we have to wait so long for the next one! Keep your eyes on this website for the date and venue confirmation soon!
