Touch World Cup – 100 days to go | Pools and format confirmed

With 100 days to go until the 2024 Touch World Cup, the Federation of International Touch has confirmed the pools and format for the 13 categories featuring in Nottingham during July.

Some 190 teams from 39 nations have confirmed their entry, making this tenth edition of the Touch World Cup far and away the largest ever.

“With the announcement of the pools, excitement and anticipation is growing rapidly as we approach the 2024 Touch World Cup,” said Mark Croston, Chair of the Federation of International Touch (FIT) Board.

“The number of entries is remarkable, and every continent will be represented. Touch has grown significantly since the last World Cup in Malaysia five years ago, and I have no doubt that Nottingham will be an incredible event this July.”

More than 250 volunteers have registered, and with more than 20 fields required both Highfields and Riverside Sports Complexes will be hosting matches.

England Touch Chief Executive, Chris Simon, who is leading the delivery of the event, added that the excitement is also growing among the organising group.

“Collectively we have organised a number of international and domestic events, but this year’s World Cup is on a different scale,” he commented. “The organising team has built up plenty of experience, and we are all excited about staging a week which the 4,000 players, coaches, referees and support staff, and the thousands of supporters, will remember.

“Touch is an incredibly inclusive game and we want to showcase this to the people of Nottingham, of England and the rest of the world. To do so, we are planning additional activity alongside the Touch World Cup that provides spectators and the local community with opportunities to try touch, potentially for the first time.

“We are also committed to making this the greenest World Cup ever, too, and are encouraging everyone to bring refillable water bottles, reduce the use of single-use plastics, using public transport or car sharing while in England, training outside in nature, and more.”
