Calling Mums and Teenage Daughters
We are extremely proud to be partnering with Women in Sport and the charity’s Time Together campaign in October. The month-long campaign aims to inspire mums and daughters to spend quality time together being active and experience the joy sport – and Touch – can bring.
The Time Together campaign was launched in 2019 after Women in Sport’s ‘Reframing Sport for Teenage Girls’ research uncovered the power of the relationship between mums and daughters, and how teenage girls view them as someone that they want to be active with, without the fear of judgement.
We know:
- 6 out of 10 teenage girls are not meeting the physical activity guidelines of 60 minutes activity per day
- 3 million teenage girls opt out of sport when transitioning from primary to secondary school. We are at risk of losing a generation of girls to a lifetime of inactivity at huge cost to their physical and mental health.
- Mums can be part of the solution. 48% of girls say their mum encourages and supports them to be active. Yet women in midlife are time poor, with many having a little as 35 minutes to themselves each day.
How you can help
We are looking for mums and teenage daughters (or almost teenage) to go along to a Touch session together.
We’d like you to capture some photos and video of you playing and film a short video on your phone about what you thought about playing together - did you discover anything you didn’t expect? If it was your first time playing Touch, what did you think? Did you learn anything from or about each other by spending time together? Has it inspired you to spend more time together being active?
You can use an iPhone, and have someone else film it. Please film it in landscape, not portrait, and try to be out of the wind! Videos do not need to be any longer than a minute or two!
This will be used by England Touch and Women in Sport during October to inspire more mums and daughters to try out Touch.
