High Performance training squads announced for 2022/23 programme
The England High Performance training squads have been announced for the winter training programme ahead of the 2023 international campaign.
Twelve squads have been named, and it is particularly exciting to include a Women’s 40 group for the first time!
With 396 players coming from 43 clubs from as far afield as Exeter, Canterbury, Wigan and North Tyneside, this is one of the largest High Performance groups names by England Touch, with the squads coming together for training a number of times over the next few months as we build up to taking the teams overseas for the 2023 Euros.
“After a successful Autumn International Series in 2021, we once again performed outstandingly well in all divisions at the 2022 European Touch Championships,” says High Performance Director, Ben Powell. “It was fantastic to be back at a major tournament, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the all of the volunteers and most importantly the athletes who make it all possible.
“We are very excited about the European Touch Championships in 2023 and of course, we have an eye on planning for the 2024 Touch World Cup. The domestic season was strong, and our Touch Nationals has once again produced an outstanding platform for our National Squads to be selected.
“We’ve got some familiar faces and exciting new talent and we’re looking forward to the campaign kicking off with sessions throughout the winter.”
