Ladies Super League Sunday - Super Success
The first of three, day-long women’s ‘Super Sunday’ Touch tournaments, organised by the UK’s largest all-women, Midlands based Touch league was a big success
The event on Sunday 21 June at Old Laurentians Rugby Club was organised by the Midlands Ladies Touch League (MLTL) and 14 teams, out of 16 from across the Midlands played on the day, involving more than 160 women aged 13 and upwards.
The results from the day were:
1st | Pershore | 16 points |
2nd | Wellesbourne | 15 points |
3rd | Camp Hill | 14 points |
3rd | Stratford | 14 points |
5th | Redditch | 12 points |
6th | Greyhounds | 11 points |
7th | Berkeswell + Balsall | 10 points |
8th | Old Laurentians | 9 points |
9th | Ross | 8 points |
10th | Newbold | 7 points |
11th | Bredon B | 6 points |
12th | Cannock | 5 points |
13th | Rugby SA | 4 points |
14th | Bredon A | (no points, since second team) |
These points will be added to those won at the next two Super Sundays and the team with the highest final score will take the MLTL overall champions’ shield. Second highest will receive the runners up trophy. This is separate from each of the leagues running in the NE and the SW, which will have their own area champions and runners up.
Fizz Bewley, Administrator for the MLTL said: “ Since our league divided into two areas this season we a have played in separate NE and SW tournaments every month, so this was the first time all of our teams have met up again as a whole region, which was brilliant! The standard of play was very high too and a really close contest between all of the teams, which made for a great tournament. The only shame was that Bromyard, Berry Hill and Luctonians could not be there to share the day with us - we hope they can at the next one at Stratford on 12 July.
Because it is non contact, anyone can play – whole families in mixed or single sex events and it is a brilliant way to get fit, make friends and have a lot of fun. The MLTL is an open league and new teams can enter at any time in the season and women of all ages can find a club near them and have a go. Nearly 200 women now play regularly in the league.”
Each of the MLTL regions hosts six regional league tournaments in the 2015 touch season, which runs from March to November, to find their regional champion. The three, all-team “Super Sunday” tournaments: two in the summer and a final in the autumn, will decide the overall MLTL winners.
The MLTL, which is affiliated to the England Touch Association, organises tournaments at all of these clubs, which play to Federation of International Touch (FIT) rules, with trained referees and coaches.
