ETA Euro Championships 2012 Results Summary

A summary of the results surrounding each of the ETA's representative sides at the European Championships 2012 in Treviso, Italy, are listed below by category:

Men's Open

Played 7 games, won 5, drew 2 in the pool stages. Drop off against Wales in the Semi Finals.

The youthful team went on to play in the Grand final, losing 10-8 to the reigning champions Scotland. Silver medallists, a great achievement for this fledgling MO team.

Top Scorer for England, Ben Creese (Captain) with 9.

Women's OpenWon all their games, conceding only 12 touchdowns in the whole tournament.After beating them 6-3 in the pool stages, the team met their main rivals, Wales, again in the finals. A great display of touch was on show, in the blistering heat, England coming out on top with a tremendous 4-3 victory.Top scorer for England, and the whole division, Anna Stibbs (Captain) with 15.

Mixed OpenLast minute draft-ins and 1^st day injuries, plagued the MXO team from the off, but this only made them grit their teeth more as their determination and teamwork came together as they quickly progressed through the rounds. After playing 6 pool games, England ended 2^nd in the table (3 teams jointly on 19 points, Scotland, England and Jersey). A nail biting semi final against Wales, resulting in a 7-6 win for England, sending them through to the final. The MXO final was against Scotland, and the fatigue started to show on the weakened side. England ended reputable Silver Medallists, losing 9-6. Top Scorer for England, Angela Verniquet with 18, 2^nd in the division.

Women's 30sWithout their own division to play in, the W30s played in the opens category, finishing a very respectable 4^th. Due to tournament rules, they couldn’t progress to knock-out rounds, which they qualified for. They went on to finish 5^th in, the highest position allowable.Top scorers for England were Alison Griffiths and Laura Mitchison both with 5.

Men's 30s

With 4 teams in the division, the M30s played each team 3 times. Winning each of their pool rounds and drawing just 1. They progressed through to the final, against main rivals and previous ETC2010 finalist, France. After a tough week, with a weakened with injury afflicted team, the M30 battled through, gaining 2^nd place and Silver medals.

Top Scorer for England, Steve Cleary with 13, joint 1^st of the division.

Mixed 30s

5 teams in the division, and so a double round robin was the format here. England won every game in the pools and scored a record setting 100 touchdowns in the process.

Meeting the Welsh team twice in the pools, drawing each game at half time and then going on to win by full time, put the MX30 team mentally ahead. The finals was no different, a 4-4 draw at half time, before England turned on the gas to become Gold Medal winners, winning 10-7.

Top scorer for England, Martin Wright, 16. Highest in the division

2 more England players came 2^nd and 3^rd highest scorers in the division too, Gregg Cropper and Julia Kang.

Men's 35s

With only 4 teams entered into the division and a rained off day, a double round robin was the final format. Staying undefeated all tournament, the 2011 World Cup bronze medal side took no prisoners. Their 1^st silverware was the inaugural ‘Simon Yarrow Cup’, a game played between England and Scotland. After a reminiscent minutes silence, England went out to beat the Scots 9-2. Progressing to the finals, the strong England team defeated Wales 5-3, another gold medal for England.

Men's 40s

After a difficult start in the pool round, drawing their 1^st game and losing their 2^nd, M40s team had lots of work to do to make it to the top spot. They turned it around by day 3, securing them a top 4 place going in the knockout rounds.

Beating the Irish team they lost against in the TWC and that they drew with in the earlier rounds, they made it to the final against a strong Spanish side. Silver medals for the M40s team, losing 7-4.
